The project

In Nicaragua, women participate in the labour market significantly less often than men. In 2025, around 51% of women aged 15 and over were employed or actively looking for work, compared with approximately 82% of men. Many women work in the service sector, and a large proportion are employed in the informal economy. As a result, many female workers have less job security and more limited access to social security.

Female entrepreneurs also often face greater difficulties when starting or growing a business. They generally have less access to financing, business networks, and other resources needed to expand their enterprises. MiCrédito therefore specifically focuses on female entrepreneurs and helps make financing more accessible to them.

MiCrédito is a microfinance institution in Nicaragua that focuses, among others, on female entrepreneurs, self-employed workers, and small-scale farmers. The organisation provides microloans that enable them to invest in their businesses, for example in materials, inventory, or expanding their activities. This gives entrepreneurs more opportunities to further develop their businesses.

MiCrédito is a microfinance institution in Nicaragua with a strong social mission. The organization primarily focuses on female entrepreneurs, small-scale farmers, and self-employed individuals in rural areas.

Access to financing remains very limited in Nicaragua, especially for low-income agricultural workers and small business owners. Only a small portion of the population can borrow from formal financial institutions or has access to a savings account. MiCrédito addresses this gap by specifically targeting the most vulnerable groups in society.

Through its accessible financial services, MiCrédito has created meaningful social impact and helped improve the quality of life for many families in Nicaragua.
