Flow 6

Mobile money agents in Rwanda help people deposit and withdraw money using their phones. But how do they access financing? Flow offers entrepreneurs short-term loans for working capital. Thanks to Flow’s strong performance, this project comes with an improved credit score, a lower interest rate, and a larger financing amount.

The project

In Rwanda, mobile money agents provide access to financial services such as sending and receiving money. These entrepreneurs often run small kiosks or shops and operate as a kind of mini-bank.

Customers send money via SMS or an app to their digital wallet on their phone. At the kiosk, they can withdraw this digital money as cash or deposit cash into their account. In this way, mobile money agents make it possible to save, pay bills, and send money to family members, even in villages without a nearby bank.

How do mobile money agents access working capital?
While they provide financial services to others, these entrepreneurs often struggle to secure sufficient working capital themselves. When their supply of mobile money runs out, they can no longer process transactions and have to turn customers away. This leads to lost income and limits access to financial services for many people.

Flow offers these entrepreneurs short-term loans tailored to their income. They can easily apply for a loan online, ensuring they always have enough capital to facilitate transactions. Many of Flow’s customers are women, young people, and first-time borrowers.

With your investment, financial services remain accessible in rural Rwanda.

Lives improved

Small kiosk owners and mobile money agents are essential to daily life in both Rwanda and Uganda. They distribute goods and services such as food, household items, farming supplies, and mobile money—especially in rural areas where formal banks are often out of reach. These entrepreneurs are often the first and only point of access to the formal economy, yet many are overlooked by traditional lenders and operate with very limited income.

Flow gives them access to short-term, digital loans tailored to their needs. With this financing, they can keep their businesses running, improve their income, and become more resilient in the face of financial challenges. Flow focuses especially on women, young people, and first-time borrowers—supporting greater economic inclusion and stability where it’s needed most.

  • 98% of customers report earning more since receiving Flow financing
  • 97% feel more financially secure and better able to manage unexpected expenses
  • 42% of female entrepreneurs report greater recognition and influence in their communities
